I started skiing as s little kid, some 27 years ago. Since those days I have been skiing alot. I thought I knew pretty well what kind of skiing there is in France, Switzerland, Italy and Austria. May be yes, but there is one thing I never had a clue and it is pretty close to my home country. That is heli-skiing in Sweden.
A week ago I went to see the new powder guns of K2 in Ski-Expo in Finland. While rambling around the exhibition hall, I came across with Mattias Cöster from Sweden. In fact, my four-year old son saw a red helicopter in a widescreen TV and wanted stopped to watch. My son was very interested in it, and yeah, me too. It is a pleasure to watch good heli-skiing in TV. I remember thinking, that must be from Lyngen in Norway..
Soon I found myself chatting with the owner of the widescreen TV, Mattias Cöster, a Swedish backcountry skier. I asked Mattias, where was this film recorded, and he replied “in Sweden”. I thought “no way, you gotta be kidding. There are no mountains like that in Sweden”. Well, Mattias was not kidding. It was true. That heli-skiing film was recorded in Sweden. Just guess what was the best thing in it? It was filmed at 3 am in June! Man, they go heli-skiing at 3 am in Sweden and I never knew that!
At this moment my kids wanted to continue walking in the exhibition hall, but I was keen on talking more about heli-skiing in Sweden. Mattias told me many things about it and I got more and more interested. I was really impressed with all this and I immediately decided to share this with you. We reported about heli-skiing in Finland some time ago, so this topic really got my interest. If you ever go to Sweden, take your skis with you and call Mattias. Let me tell you why.
Arctic Elements provides heli-skiing above the Arctic Circle, ultimate freeride experience in arctic mountains with half the size of Austria. There are hundreds of peaks covered by powder snow and no other skiers. These ultimate freeskiing regions are called Bjorkliden, Abisko, Riksgransen and Kebnekaise. Mattias provides a skiing package with 30 000 vertical meters of freeskiing, 10 hours of airborne time, guided service and all mandatory safety elements as well as quality accomodation and meals included. It is a full package of very exotic freeskiing above the Arctic Circle.
If heli-skiing in Sweden was new to you, there is probably another fact that you have not heard of. Arctic Elements provides the largest heli-skiing area in Europe. The area consists of 5000 square kilometers and more than 100 mountain peaks with vertocal drops up to 1400 meters. Bjorkliden Mountain Village is located right next to the largest wilderness area in Europe. Skiing is done in small guided groups and each group can ski 1-5 runs in dayli packages, and up to 8-10 runs per day in the packeges 30 000 and 10 000 vertical meters. Notice that the season is from the end of Februari until the end of June. According to Mattias, the mission of Arctic Elements is to provide a memorable experience of the arctic mountain regions of Scandinavia. It is truly a magic experience in the world of arctic mountains and glaciers.
Arctic Elements serves with three modern Eurocopter helicopters and experienced guides. The company (Arctic Elements) is founded and managed by Mattias Cöster, one of the most experienced heliskiguides in Sweden. The deep passion to freeskiing acts as one of the main motivational forces behind this company. Read more about Arctic Elements and heli-skiing in Sweden from their website. If you get interested, you can easily book in the website (prices are available) or you can call Mattias directly. Contact information below.

What is your plan for the next summer? How about heli-skiing at midnight above the Arctic Circle? Under the sun of course, the sun does not set in northern countries at mid-summer. This could an adventure you won’t forget! I really got interested about this. I already told my 13 years old son that your next summer vacation is already planned. I know what we will do next summer. No, we won’t go to Spain or any other beach resorts. We go skiing some summer powder in Swedish Lappland at midnight!
