Skiing in Finland - Five Good Reasons to Ski in Finland
Yesterday I discussed about the top five ski resorts in Finland. As I said yesterday, there are few good ski resorts in Finland providing family skiing, backcountries, pretty active nightlife as well as some new-school type of skiing facilities. I recommended spending your next skiing holidays in Finland, but I did not say why. In this article I provide you five good reasons to ski in Finland.

Reason 1/5 to ski in Finland - Skiing in Finland is a different experience
Skiing in Finland is different from skiing in Central-Europe because of the smaller resorts and colder arctic climate. It is colder and darker here, but the nature is beautiful, pure and wild. There are not as much tourists as in bigger ski resorts in Central-Europe, which makes skiing in Finland peaceful and enjoyable. When skiing in Finland, you can experience a real sauna and original Lappish culture. In order to experience a little more exotic and magical skiing trip, consider skiing in Finland, above the Arctic Circle.
Reason 2/5 to ski in Finland - Finland is a safe country
Finland is a small democratic country in which corruption is in the lowest level in the world. Certainly we have criminals as well, but in general being in Lapland is very safe. You can leave your car unlocked and even your skis inside of it for the night, and in the morning they are still there. You can trust people and they trust you, and you can easily get help whenever you need. You can also travel around the country with no fear, even alone.
Reason 3/5 to ski in Finland - In Finland you can see the northern lights (Aurora Borealis)
One of the reasons why I love Lapland is that I can see northern lights in there. I am interested in astronomy as well, and seeing northern lights is a fascinating experience. If you travel to Lapland in January, you most probably will see northern lights 1-2 times during one week vacation. Northern lights can really be stunning and those you can see in Lapland in Finland.
Reason 4/5 to ski in Finland - Finland is not crowded
Take your time in the mornings, eat your breakfast and drink your coffee. There is no hurry with skiing on a powder day because the ski resorts are not too crowded. You can enjoy your life, observe the nature and talk with locals. This you cannot do in ski resorts such as Chamonix, Verbier, Megeve, Zermatt, etc. because those resorts are so crowded and people are eager to get themselves to the first cable car in a morning. As soon as you wake up, you must run to a bus in order to catch the first cable car to the top of a mountain. I know this from practice after spending several seasons as a skibum in Chamonix since 1997.
Reason 5/5 to ski in Finland - The teal Santa Claus is from Finland
It is Christmas time soon and your kids (if you happen to have) must be waiting for the Santa Claus. There are thousands of Santa’s in stores and shopping malls all around the world, but the real Santa Clause comes from Korvatunturi, Finland. When skiing in Finland, you might come across with the Santa Claus. And that would be great, right?
