Days go fast. Soon the ski season is over. Am I pessimistic? Well, may be? The reason is that I have too too busy with my work and therefore I haven’t been skiing much. Ok, I know, this is what I have chosen. Hopefully Finnish schools have soon one week “skiing vacation” and we are going to ski in northern Finland. Later in the spring we are heading to France and Switzerland once again. This is our life with three kids in a city. Not as much backcountry skiing as some years ago..
Heyy, check out the new question in the right sidebar! In February we ask you “how old are your skis?”. We are interested to know with how old skis people go skiing. I have a feeling that most people have 2-3 years old skis, just like me. Am I right? We’ll see it in the end of February. Please drop your answer, it’s quick and easy. In case you haven’t seen the results of our January’s question, please click the link and see where most of our readers are going to ski this season.
Yesterday our son was skiing in Talma, our local little resort just two kilometers from our home. He proudly told me how he jumped big gaps and did some cool tricks. He reminds me the days I was 13 years old. I remember coming back home yelling “Dad! I won the race today!”. “Oh? That’s great!”, he said. “I’m pretty good, eh? Could I now get the new skis? These are not fast enough for racing”, I continued. “No”, said my father. Short and simple answer. That’s it. Aaargh! I was angry. Now when our sons ask if I could purchase a new laptop, I reply “how about new skis instead of the laptop?”.
It’s great to ski with kids. I love to see them developing and enjoying skiing. Skiing has been my way of life since I was six or seven years old (cannot remember exactly) and I happy that I can provide my kids the possibility to enjoy skiing, even though sometimes it can be a bit difficult. Yesterday our son asked if we could go skiing in Chamonix, just like last year. He fell in love with Chamonix (that’s great!) in last year as we spent few days practicing mogul skiing and fast slope skiing. I wish I could say “go pack your stuff, we’ll fly tomorrow”. No, we need to wait few weeks.
Hey! How old are your skis? Please leave your answer in the sidebar. Thanks!

1You forgot the choice of “What skis?”
Yes, I ski. Love it! Though I’ve come to realize that my 3 to 4 days of skiing a year do not make it worth the money to buy skis that in 5 years (20 days of skiing) will be out of date. Back in the days that I’d ski 75+ days a year, well then I had new skis every two years. Now I just opt to have my own boots and demo the latest and greatest skis every year.

2Heh.. you’re right, Sly Bald Guy. May be I should add it.
That’s absolutely a good decision. If you ski only few times a year, there is no point having the latest skis. If I was you, I’d do the same.
Hey, where do you go skiing, or where have you been skiing mostly? In US, Canada..?

3I ski mostly in Tahoe, or other Nor Cal slopes. I have yet to ski Colorado, but it looks like I might get a trip in this year while I’m on business.
I really need to find a way to make it to the slopes more often.

4Heh.. sounds like we have the same goal. I might also get a business trip to Boulder this season, so there is a chance for me to ski Silverton and Breckenridge this year.
I can underline your last sentence. I need to do the same.
