Matthias Lanzinger Latest News - Matthias Lanzinger’s Leg Amputated (crash video)
Austrian skier Matthias Lanzinger’s left leg has been amputated last Tuesday. Matthias Lanzinger, 27, crashed in World Cup super-G race in Kvitfjell in Norway last Sunday. Matthias Lanzinger suffered from deep tissue damage and therefore the only choice was amputation.
When Matthias Lanzinger’s condition started to weaken his doctors had to make the difficult decision of amputating Matthias Lanzinger’s leg, reports Austrian Ski Federation. According to Robert Brunner Matthias Lanzinger’s operation was started in Ullevål hospital in Oslo (Norway) Tuesday noon. Matthias Lanzinger was operated already in Sunday and Monday, but the amputation was done in Tuesday. Matthias Lanzinger was kept in artificial come during the operations.
Austrians planned transporting Matthias Lanzinger to Salzburg in Austria where Artur Tost saved Herrman Maier from amputation in 2001. Unfortunately the transportation was not possible due to the serious traumas of Matthias Lanzinger. His blood did not circulate in his leg anymore.
Matthias Lanzinger lost his balance in the super-G race last Sunday and crashed with the fence. People have wondered why there were no rescue helicopters in Kvitfjell. Matthias Lanzinger was transported to hospital by a regular business helicopter. Matthias Lanzinger’s best achievement in alpine skiing has been third position in the World Cup super-G race in Beaver Creek in 2005.
This is absolutely a sad day for Matthias Lanzinger. We hope Matthias all the best and energy to go through this. We hope Matthias will recover soon.
