Matthias Lanzinger Recovering - They Did Everything But Could Not Save Matthias Lanzinger’s Leg

Matthias LanzingerMatthias Lanzinger crashed few weeks ago in Kvittfjell, Norway. Due to the serious injuries Matthias lost his left leg in amputation. According to various online news magazines doctors did everything possible but were not able to save Lanzinger’s leg. He was transported from Norway to Salzburg, Austria and he is recovering.

Two weeks ago newspapers reported that Matthias is going to continue recovering in a general department in hospital, not in intensive care unit like earlier. According to Lanzinger’s doctor, Herbert Resch, “Matthias is recovering and suffers some pain naturally, but he does not complain“. Matthias needs mental support in the future, says Resch. Matthias has met his relatives to whom he has told about his plans to build a house.

Some people claimed that the race in Norway was not organized properly. According to Austrian newspapers, security issues were not well addressed in Kvittfjell, but Federation Internationale de Ski (FIS) has shot down these complaints. The head of ski races in FIS says everything was organized properly and the organizers of the race did everything correct with Matthias Lanzinger.

Austrian newspapers did complain that there was no helicopter reserved for the race. FIS race coordinator Günther Hujara disagrees with this and says that there was a helicopter 150 meters away from the finish line. “Those who say we did not have a helicopter don’t know the truth and want to spread rumors“.

Matthias Lanzinger lost his balance in super-G race and crashed against safety net. He suffered from deep tissue damage and the only choice left was amputation. “We have discussed about Matthias Lanzinger much with other skiers“, says female racer Tanja Poutiainen. What happened to Matthias Lanzinger is dramatic, but skiers know the risks of the sport.
