Additions to Our Blogroll

Some time ago I posted links to nice ski blogs and communities. While on the subject I kept searching for more…

I found out that there are quite alot of ski blogs around. It wasn’t too easy to decide who’s blog to add on the list. So, I decided on criteria (in no particular order):

1) Page Rank 3 or greater…

2) Must be updated frequently

3) Interesting and/or somehow helpful (for a skier) content

Ok, first of all, I had to admit I did a few exceptions immediately: if the content was intresting enough I ditch the page rank criteria (like LivingInPatagonia’s case) without thinking too much. I also accepted blogs that showed no recent entries but were/are very active when the season is going on (note that there are a lot of ski blogs that remain very inactive during the summer season. Which can’t be suprising to anyone…)

Let’s move on to the list of blogs. I will write you a short intruduction of each one:

1. Doglotion - A freeskiing community

Not just a blog but articles, videos, photos, resorts, gear, profiles and nice news feed section…Good to read e.g. that Scott MaCartney is back on the skis again - great news! (remember his horrible fall in January?)

2. Ian Gorton’s ski, travel and fun blog

Another “average guy” ski blog. Well, maybe for an average guy Ian travel and skis quite alot…nice pictures from several trips. (And yes, we are a bit jealous here…damn)

3. LivingInPatagonia

As I mentioned this was just too interesting to skip, despite the relatively low page rank.

A couple who moved from Lake Tahoe California to Patagonia and bought a wine yard – talk about living the dream. I have only visited South America once but I will keep checking this blog frequently…you can alway dream, right?

The blog offers some helpful information too, about practical issues in Argentina like how to buy real estate or how to dial a cell phone in Argentina (seems quite complicated actually!). Check the site for other artciles on similar issues.I am really digging this stuff…a blog can be helpfull and informative as well, not just a personal “diary”…

4. New England Ski Blog

Skiing in the East Coast? I bet not many Europeans go to the States to ski on the “ice coast”. But in a ”perverted” way I would like to visit East Coast resorts too some days. Like take a trip to New York and visit the resorts of Maine and Vermont. I have heard the New England villages are quite beautiful too. So why not? We also kind of feel symphaty for the skiers there, as the weather conditions are quite similar to ours – all the soft snow can turn into a wet mank in hours and then freeze again in the next night…sound pretty familiar to us too.

Interesting summer content too, like here. Check it out!

5. Ski Utah Blog

Stated as “The Greatest Snow on Earth”. If you need more explanations, read here

6. The Cleanest Line

“Weblog for the employees, friends and customers of the outdoor clothing company Patagonia. Visit Patagonia.com to see what we do.” – Fair enough

7. The Ski Guru Blog

Another East Coast blog. And to be honest, this had the highest page rank too.

But who woudn’t hit this…Icefall to flat, just like home, heh

And then, as a bonus. A link to a ski community I forgot to add in the earlier post. I have a love/hate relationship to this site: http://www.newschoolers.com

The forums are full of (angry) teenagers, the posts barely readable at times and everyone is (too) keen on what’s the latest trends in newschool skiing. But on the other hand the site has lots of good information like the broad 08/09 gear preview  and video section showing lots of skills (and of course bad examples too) – good for learning new tricks anyway!

All in all the Newschoolers site has a bit too much stuff (in my opinion) - at least for the unfrequent visitor. it is quite hard to navigate on the site and search the essential among the vast amount of articles, news, profiles etc. Good way to kill time at work though…or dream about the winter in those sweaty summer days!
