El Caminito Del Ray - The King’s Pathway

Earth is an amazing place to live and explore. Our blue planet is filled with truly amazing places and beautiful landscapes. Do you ever feel like your world is boring and it is just circulating between your job, shop and home? Well, as a father of our three-kid family I sometimes feel exactly like that. May be the reason is that some years ago I used to travel across the world and experience interesting cultures, and ski, climb and ride amazing mountains. I am still into skiing and mountain biking, but honestly not as seriously as I used to be. Years ago my trips were big adventures for myself, now they are family oriented skiing, bicycling and paddling trips. Yes, I have become combination of a father and a work horse..
Well, who cares? I am just one of the old farts who still believe they can skateboard and do 720 degrees with skis. There is even Facebook community for guys like me. Oh yes, I did join the group.
Now to the interesting part! For some reason many skiers and snowboarders I have met have shown their interest to climbing. I also used to climb snow, ice and rock, although not that seriously. One of my friends who are keen on climbing sent me a link to the video below. It is video recorded by some dude who walks the pathway of El Caminito del Ray - The King’s Pathway, located in Spain.
I have been in pretty steep mountain faces and truly amazing places, but El Caminito del Ray is absolutely stunning. Located 200 meters high on almost 90 degrees steep mountain face makes El Caminito del Ray the most freaking place to walk I have ever heard of. El Caminito del Ray was built in 1901 for the workers of two falls. Today the pathway is in lousy condition as you can see in the video. Several people have lost their lives in this dangerous walk. Some years ago four people fell and died in short time period, and after that the Spanish authorities closed the entrance to the pathway. Anyhow, every now and then people find their ways to the El Caminito del Ray, just like this guy on the video. Some climbers also use El Caminito del Ray as their way to a famous climbing route.
I am amazed! I mentioned in my astronomy blog that I keep on wondering how amazing the universe is. We don’t need to travel to Mars or distant galaxies to see the wonders of the universe as we have places like El Caminito del Ray on our own planet. Oh man, this world is wonderful! El Caminito del Ray - I would like to experience it..
