Heliskiing in Sweden - 10.000 Vertical Meters in 3 Days
Heliskiing season in Sweden has started. Arctic Elements, managed by Mattias Cöster, operates heliskiing trips to the best backcountries of Sweden. Heliskiing in Sweden sounds pretty interesting, especially when looking at the pictures in the website of Arctic Elements. There seem to be a number of very nice mountain faces and couloirs, and what’s best, there are no other people. Cool!

I met Mattias Cöster last year in SkiExpo in Finland and talked about heliskiing in Sweden. One thing was really surprising for me even though I live in the neighboring country (Finland). Mattias showed me a video of few guys skiing some nice mountain face, and he asked me “when do you think this was filmed“. I said “may be March?”, to which Mattias replied “no, it was filmed in late June, and in fact it’s midnight“.
This was the first time I heard that in Sweden they go heliskiing at midnight on late June. It is possible because sun doesn’t set on summer time in northern countries, and snow doesn’t melt so quickly. Anyhow, this is not possible in Finland because our “mountains” are so tiny little hills.
Heliskiing in Sweden is an ultimate freeride experience
Arctic Elements operates in a large area consisting of the regions of Bjorkliden, Abisko, Riksgransen and Kebnekaise. There are practically hundreds of interesting freeskiing options with a breath taking arctic scenery.

Arctic Elements provides several heliskiing packages, but one of them stands out. 10,000 vertical meters in three days sounds very interesting. It’s quite easy to arrange couple of days off from work and spend a long weekend heliskiing in Sweden. 10,000 vertical meters in three days is a good amount of skiing. The only thing I would be worried about is climate. Three days trip is such short that bad weather can kill your heliskiing dreams. Anyhow, if three days is not enough, Arctic Elements provides also 30,000 vertical meters in seven days.
If you are interested in heliskiing in Sweden, I recommend you to read more in Arctic Elements website.
