Have you ever thought that skis could be made of stone? No worries, we didn’t think of that either. Swiss designer Simon Jacomet has developed Zai granite skis which are the first ever to be made of stone. Zai makes well known high-spec skis, but only small amounts per year. Last year they made only 500 pairs of skis to be sold worldwide.

These very special limited edition Spada (the Romanic word for sword) skis are the first ever made to have a heart of Grisons granite“, says the source. Zai skis look pretty nice, and they are actually very interesting. I just wonder how it would feel skiing with these “stones”. They must be pretty heavy..

So, would you buy?

  1. This seems out of hand, but I guess people ski Channel and Prada skis, being as narrow (72 waist!) I think they are trying to appeal to the same crowd.

  2. I agree. Probably this kind of skis are just for showing off. Anyhow, would be interesting to test them.

I’ll stick to my Dynastar 8800′s, thank you. Wood core, a bit more flexible. I’d be afraid of breaking the core in moguls!

Of course, with a 72mm waist, not many people like me will be skiing these. Front side boards only, a disappointment.
