About

4_013752.jpgG’day Mate!

Nice that you stopped by, I hope you enjoy our little skiing blog. Why this blog? Well, me and my mates are very enthusiastic alpine and backcountry skiers. Ok, at least we used to be. We used to live our dreams by skiing fabulous and stunning mountain faces in many countries. We all started skiing as little kids and we spent our youth by skiing every single weekend. As grown-ups we used to travel together and spend the ski seasons in those “skiing headquarters” such as Chamonix and La Grave. We used to share the deep powder fields together with our true friends, we climbed steep mountain faces just to ski it down and we spent numerous nights in the mountains watching millions of stars above us. Together we lived our dreams and we enjoyd skiing 100%.

Time goes on and we got older. Most of us have already little skiers who require lots of time. We became proud fathers. At the same time many of us put a lot of efforts in career, which forced us to cut down most of our hobbies. We got married with our careers. Sounds good? Not? No, it does not sound good at all. This is the point where we got enough and decided take our old dusty skis and rush to the mountains. No, not to the backcountries and couloirs, because our little skiers follow behind. Now we ski with our kids on slopes, but every now and then we go getting faceshots in the glorious powder fields. Life burns in our veins..

The primary reason for setting up this blog was to “feel being back in skiing scene”. It feels nice to write about skiing and share our thoughts and experiences with readers. Homeboy’s skiing blog provides you skiing tips&tricks, road-trip stories, movie and book reviews, technical information, competition watch, resort reviews, news and photo sessions. Our main focus is to provide you howto-information, such as how to ski in different conditions, how to fix your equipment and how to organise your ski trip. All the rest, such as news and reviews, comes on top of how-to articles. We focus in providing you something valuable when it comes to skiing.

Now you know the story. It is time to introduce us.

Marko Pyhäjärvi (Homeboy) is an old-school alpine skier and enthusiastic blogger who wants to share his experiences and thoughts with thousands of other skiers worldwide. He enjoys backcountry and powder skiing as well as photographing skiing. Nowadays, as an old fart, he mostly goes skiing with his children and focuses in financing their (damn expensive!) hobbies.

Marko Pyhäjärvi is the founder and administrator of this blog. If you are interested to advertise in this blog, don’t hesitate to contact us. Marko is the responsible for marketing and co-operation with vendors and other bloggers. As a writer Marko focuses mostly in alpine skiing, training, skiing with kids, photographing, resorts and backcountry skiing.

Janne Niini (yet another Homeboy) is a former (not-so-competitive) mogul-skier who nowadays enjoys many aspects of snow-gliding: alpine, telemarking and occasional snowboarding too. Janne has two small daughters and like Marko he is very happy to intrude them to skiing in the near future.

Janne tries to keep up some with the new school crowd but finds out that he sucks more and more every year, and his style is more and more out dated. Anyway, he keeps trying as long the aging body allows.

In this blog Janne helps and supports Marko in issues considering freestyle skiing, equipment innovations and ski resorts. Janne’s special favourite is skiing in Slovakia, where he spent several months in 2003 and 2004. All and all he’s interested in skiing in so called exotic places (another favourite being Chile where Janne travelled in summer 2002.)

Janne works at about ten minutes distance from Talma which is a very unique ski resort. It’s stunning vertical of 5500 cm (you read it righ!) might not be much but the place has probably produced clearly the most pro snowboarders per vertical meters in the whole world - a very strange and humbling place to be a skier, although the new school genre is boosting as well these days. Janne has a plan to skiing at the lunch hours this winters…keep checking if this ever happens!

This is it! Now you know us. Aren’t we cool, right? Keep on reading our superb articles and provide your feedback whenever you feel like. Your feedback is very welcome! Join our competitions and post comments. If you are interested in writing an article in our blog, don’t hesitate to contact us. We are always open for your true stories in the world of skiing.

Rock on!
