Recon Instruments MOD is the world’s first Micro Optics Display for alpine goggles. MOD snap-fits into any Recon-Ready goggle frame to give you real-time data, hands free, in the harshest environments on earth. MOD allows the user to analyze their action with real time stats. Track your speed, jump analytics, vertical distance and more. Pretty cool, eh?

We receive lots of press releases, and in most cases we are not much interested, but this one stands out. I think this is pretty cool, so I decided to share this with you.

Recon Instruments is a Vancouver (BC) based technology company that has released a micro optics display for ski/snowboard goggles.

So what the heck is that?

It took me some time to figure it out as the press release is pretty “nerdy”, but shortly said their two versions of their GPS-enabled goggles provide skiers and riders with a variety of data including speed, jump analytics, vertical, altitude, location, distance, chrono/tracker, run-counter, and temperature. This means that you can record lots of different data during your day on the slopes, and you can share all this data in the Internet. You can re-live and learn from your trips and runs, add images and video to create a highlight reel to share with other community members or with friends and family via Facebook and Twitter. Pretty cool I would say. Kids must really like this.

There’s even more. The Android-based MOD Live ships with four new, industry first applications:

Buddy Tracking

Smartphone Connectivity

a Navigation app pre-loaded with the largest database of trail maps in the world

Music Playlist Mode

Camera Connectivity for use in the future with select wireless point-of-view action cameras.

“The transition to modular based optics allows us to expand our reach exponentially,” said Darcy Hughes, Chief Marketing Officer, Recon Instruments. “The snap-fit design, Bluetooth interaction, combined with the ever-evolving Android platform, is a game changer for the action sports industry in terms of connectivity, real-time information direct to eye, and community sharing.”

Other new features this season include a fasten-anywhere Bluetooth remote control, 33% larger widescreen optics, and an adjustable optics arm for a truly custom fit. Recon Ready goggles are already available from Uvex, Briko, Alpina, and Zeal Optics, with several more leading goggle brands scheduled to come onboard this winter and spring.

MOD and MOD Live are available now for $299 and $399.

This is a pretty good Christmas present idea. Products should be available in Amazon soon.

Now this is a sleak product! We received ThinKing credit card holder for review few days ago. Check out why we think this is a must have product for all action sports enthusiastics!

I received an interesting package the other day. Aki from Volver Creative had sent me his latest design product for review. ThinKing is a credit card holder, but not just any random credit card holder. I believe this is the very best credit card holder for skiers, snowboarders, surfers and other action sports enthusiastics. Let’s find out why.

I opened the package to get this sleak looking product in my hands.

ThinKing comes inside of a small black box which opens by pushing from the bottom. There is a short description of the ThinKing credit card holder in the backside of the box, both in Finnish and in English. ThinKing is a Finnish design product, so that’s why two languages.

ThinKing is made of anodized aluminium, and it is available currently in eight colours. All models can be seen in ThinKing online store. The colour of my credit card holder is “titan”, although I really like the black one. I’m a skier, but I’m also an entrepreneur, so black credit card holder fit well with my black Armani suit (he he..). Quite frankly pink credit card holder is pretty sweet or what say ya?

According to ThinKing website this product has a unique, patented construction and it can hold up to four cards securely inside. Although the inner material of ThinKing keeps credit cards in place, it’s not difficult to get them out either. I don’t know what the inner material is, but it really works well.

ThinKing credit card holder feels nice in hand. It’s leightweight and fancy. I used to carry a huge wallet with tons of stuff, but not anymore. I prefer having only the minimum amount of cards with me, all packed inside ThinKing credit card holder.

“ThinKing’s beauty lies in its smooth functionality and small size. Being both lightweight and slim it is easy to carry in any pocket or purse“, is said in ThinKing website, and I totally agree. Once you have started using ThinKing, you won’t carry your huge wallet anymore.

If you are a skier, snowboarder, surfer, mountain biker, base jumper or any other action sports enthusiastic, you MUST get this product. It’s so much easier to carry max four credit cards than a wallet full of stuff. ThinKing protects your credit cards from so that they won’t break in action.

It’s a beatiful weather here in Helsinki right now. It’s almost 4 pm, and I’m about to leave office. In couple of minutes I’ll take my ThinKing credit card holder and Ray-Ban aviator sunglasses, and will head to the bar. I’ll impress all the ladies with my stylish look.. HA HA!

Hell yeah, this is a nice product, and I truly love it! For more check out ThinKing website! You like or not? Leave a comment.

A perfect helmet for juniors, beginners or anyone who wants a no-frills, alpine-inspired helmet. Sestriere has received good feedback from Amazon buyers. Here’s one comment from a satisfied buyer.

“Was a little concerned about buying a helmet online but I measured my head and ordered this helmet to use for skiing. It’s great! Fit like a glove. Not too tight around the chin and comfortable. It has a great grove around the middle of the helmet for goggle straps with a strap that buttons on the back so your goggles stay on your helmet and don’t slide around much when you’re out on the trail or slopes. They will also keep you from losing your goggle when you take a break. It feels pretty light when it’s on your head. Definitely one of my favorite Amazon.com purchases!”

Is it the Millenium Falcon from Star Wars? Or is it a sled? No, it's both..

Not every ski holiday goes smoothly. Sometimes families are stuck inside a chalet due to bad weather, and that can be hard with little kids. Little boys and girls get frustrated inside and start freaking out because they can’t release their energy to skiing. This usually leads to a negative whirlpool in which parents get frustrated due to noise, kids produce more noise because they see their parents becoming frustrated and so on..

How to prepare for such difficult situations? Well, naturally doing something outside helps, but sometimes chances are limited, especially in tiny ski resorts like here in Finland. Amazon sells pretty interesting sleds and other devices for winter fun. We went through the whole listing and picked up 10 coolest sleds, flyers and saucers. It’s time to have some fun with kids..

Cool sled #9 -Mountain Boy Sledworks Ultimate Flyer 52-Inch Sled

Afraid of avalanches? Here is an interesting safety product you might be interested in. Check this out!

Swiss company Snowpulse has developed an avalanche airbag that significantly increases chances of survival chances in an avalanche. Snowpulse lifebag is probably the best avalanche airbag ever made. It is light, compact and user-friendly, and it also provides a high level of personal protection.

The advantage of having Snowpulse Lifebag is that the device keeps your head on top and out of the snow. Without the Lifebag, a person has a higher risk of getting buried under the snow. Avalanche airbag also protects the skier’s head from various traumas caused by rocks and ice. In many avalanche accidents, the cause of death is actually a trauma, not suffocation. Snowpulse Lifebag also helps find the patient, because it is easy to recognize a colorful airbag on top of the snow.

Snowpulse Lifebag is an interesting product, and it will be available on 2008-2009. I hope people start using these kinds of avalanche safety devices, because too many people die in avalanches. Unfortunately Snowpulse Lifebag won’t be very cheap, but I think it is worth the investment. We expect that Snowpulse Lifebag will significantly decrease risk of death in avalanches.

Few more Christmas gift ideas for those who haven't yet bought all the presents.

Yep, it is soon Christmas and you and I do not need to work. Great! I will stay at home, read books and go skiing and snowboarding few times. I will have a long vacation, almost two weeks. It is about one week for Christmas and I have not found all the presents. I have discovered different products in Amazon and in our local stores but I am not done yet. I found many interesting Christmas gift ideas and I decided to share those with you, because you might be in a similar situation; looking for the last minute gifts. Oh, also remember to check out my previous Christmas presents ideas!

Christmas Gift Idea #1: Warren Miller’s Storm DVD

Every skier and snowboarder loves to watch DVD’s. Warren Miller’s DVD’s are great and this one definitely rocks. It is a freeride movie that brings some of the best mountain sport athletes to awesome places, such as British Columbia and Antarctica. Storm is a DVD that for sure would not be a disappointing present.

Christmas Gift Idea #2: Snowboarding Magazine Subscription For One Year

Skiing is great and snowboarding rocks. If you or someone in your family is into snowboarding, a one-year subscription of Snowboarding magazine could be a great present. The good point with magazine subscriptions is that they last more than just one day. In case of Snowboarder you get nine issues, which is like nine presents Check out Snowboarder magazine subscription! It is a good magazine and right now it seems to be very cheap!

Have you been freezing in mountains? It really feel annoying. Heatmax hand and body warmers provide a quick help in case you start freezing. These are a pretty good and valuable present for skiers and snowboarders. If you start freezing, you just place the warmer to the freezing are and it starts warming you. I have used these since 1995 or something and I really like them.

Christmas Gift Idea #4: A Knitting Beanie

This is something women like, a beanie. I like this type of beanies and I purchased a pretty similar one for my wife. I am not sure if she likes it, but I hope so.. Anyhow, I recommend this beanie for women as a present. If you are looking for a present for your wife, check out this beanie, a valuable and long-lasting Christmas present.

Yeps, these were my four additional Christmas gift ideas. Take a look at my Previous Christmas present recommendations as well if you have not done it yet. I wish you a merry Christmas and nice time with your family. Soon it is time to take it relaxed and enjoy the Christmas, but first the presents..
